Artist's Note:

I acquired several reference photos of these birds of paradise from my frequent walks around the streets of Manoa Valley. These eclectic colorful plants are found all over our neighbor's yards. My parents also have a love of these plants stemming from their travels to San Diego. This painting makes me think of their relationship and also connects me back to the beauty of the valley I get to live in here in Hawaii.
